Ritu Phogat is a mixed martial arts athlete and former freestyle wrestler from India. She is the real sister of famous wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat who won the gold medal in the 2016 Common Wealth Wrestling Game. She is the third daughter of former famous wrestler and senior Olympic coach Mahavir Singh. Ritu Phogat was born on 2 May 1994 in Balali, Haryana. She had her early education in Balali village.
After this, when she was 8 years old, she started wrestling training under the guidance of her father. Initially, she found this training very difficult, she used to get up at 4:00 am daily and used to do various exercises and hard practices. But later on, she got used to all these things and started enjoying wrestling itself. She had made wrestling her passion and was looking forward to pursuing a career in this field, for which she also left her studies.
After completing her 10th standard, she stopped taking further education to give time to wrestling. Taking training from her father, Ritu had achieved success in many district-level and state-level wrestling competitions. She started her career as a wrestler in the 48-kg freestyle category in the year 2011. Ritu made her international debut as a wrestler in the 2014 FILA Junior World Championship held in Zagreb Croatia.
Ritu won the annual National Wrestling Championship in October 2016 for the second time in a row. She won a gold medal in the 48 kg category at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships held in Singapore in 2016. Which proved to be a turning point in her career. In the Pro Wrestling League Auction held in 2016, Ritika Phogat was the most expensive female wrestler sold.
She also left behind women wrestling wrestlers like Sakshi Malik and Geeta Phogat in this auction. In the Pro Wrestling League auction, she was bought by the Jaipur Ninjas franchise for Rs 36 Lakh. In November 2017, Ritu won the silver medal at the World Under 23 Wrestling Championships, which was held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
