Mohammed Shami is an international Indian cricketer who is known for playing international cricket for India. Shami plays for Bengal in domestic cricket and he plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami was born on 3 September 1990 in Sahaspur, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his early education at a school in Amroha. He was not very educated and stopped going to school after the 10th.

Shami’s father was a farmer and also a fast bowler of his time. He wanted his son to grow up to be a cricketer. Mohammed Shami had 4 brothers and all his brothers tried to become fast bowlers but only Shami got success. Shami’s father recognized his talent in 2005 at the age of 15 and took him to Moradabad cricket coach Badruddin Siddiqui for training. Where Shami learned the nuances of cricket.

However, when he did not get a place in the Uttar Pradesh Under-19 team, on the advice of coach Badruddin Siddiqui, he went to Kolkata and started playing cricket at Dalhousie Athletic Club. Then former assistant secretary of the Bengal Cricket Association, Debabrata Das sent Shami to Mohun Bagan Club.

Shami played brilliantly in the nets under the tutelage of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly at Mohun Bagan Club and took more than 40 wickets for the town club in the Kolkata League. After consistently performing brilliantly in club cricket, Shami got a chance to play in the Bengal Ranji team.

Mohammed Shami started his domestic cricket career in October 2010 and in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy for Bengal, Shami took 3 wickets in his debut match against Assam. Shami made his List-A cricket debut on 10 February 2011 against Odisha in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 3 wickets for 39 runs in 10 overs. He made his T20 debut on 20 October 2010 against Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and took 4 wickets for 24 runs in four overs.

In 2012, Shami was selected for the India A team after his excellent performance in domestic cricket. In a Test match against West Indies in June 2012, he made a match-winning partnership of 73 runs for the 10th wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara. Soon after Shami got a chance to play in the Indian national team. Shami made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in a One Day International (ODI) against Pakistan in January 2013.

In 2013, Mohammed Shami made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, that season, Shami could not do much and remained on the bench in most of the matches. After which Delhi Daredevils bought Mohammed Shami for ₹4.25 crore in the 2014 IPL. Shami played 12 matches that season and took seven wickets.

Delhi Daredevils retained him for the 2015 season as well. He was bought again by Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL auction.
