Harmanpreet was given the captaincy of the Indian women’s team in the 2012 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup final due to injuries to captain Mithali Raj and vice-captain Jhulan Goswami.

As a captain, she made her debut against Pakistan Women in the final match of the Asia Cup and led India to the Asia Cup title. In 2013, on the recommendation of former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the Government of Maharashtra appointed him to the Mumbai Division of Western Railway.

Earlier in 2010, when Harmanpreet was in dire need of a job, her job application for the Punjab Police was mockingly rejected by the Punjab government. A few years later, to correct the injustice done to Harmanpreet by the previous government, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh offered her a job in the Punjab Police, saying he would review the state’s sports policy.

This score made by her of 171 runs is the second-highest score by any Indian woman in world women’s cricket. The record for scoring more runs in a match in international matches is in the name of Deepti Sharma, who has scored 188 runs in an innings.

Harmanpreet is the first woman cricketer from India to score a century in an international T20 match. She scored 103 runs in just 51 balls while opening in the first WT20Is against New Zealand.
