Fortunately, there have been several cricketers in recent times who have broken the boundaries and defied the stereotypes.
5. Sachin Baby
Sachin Baby is a familiar name for Bangalore fans and after making his IPL debut in 2016, the Kerala boy proposed to his longtime girlfriend Anna Chandy at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kochi.
The Mallu boy is an established name in Kerala cricket and made his debut way back in 2009. He started his career with Rajasthan Royals who drafted him into the IPL initially, but he made his debut in 2016 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Surely he was inspired by his skipper Virat Kohli when he publicly proposed to his longtime girlfriend. Sachin posted a short video as well thanking the Kerala Cricket Association and his friends. Anna and Sachin also did a small pre-wedding photoshoot on the pitch. The couple tied the knot on 5 January 2017.
4. Axar Patel
Axar Patel has emerged as one of the crucial members of the Indian team in recent times and his rise in the last two years has been metamorphic. His stature has increased drastically in the Indian team, but the Gujarat-born Axar came into the limelight in the 2014 IPL when he won the Emerging Player award with Kings XI Punjab.
Patel is famous for his consistent line length and jolly nature off-field. He had an outstanding 2021 year and after achieving personal milestones, Axar decided to propose to his long-time girlfriend. He celebrated his birthday this year on 20 January, and to make his birthday even more precious, he proposed to his girlfriend Meha. Axar announced his declaration of innings to Meha in a loving surprise ceremony where he proposed to her on a beautiful platform where “Marry Me” was written.
3. Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has been a sensation since his move to Chennai Super Kings in 2018. He not only succeeded in breaking into the Indian team but has become a lethal option for the Indian team with his abilities with the ball and bat.
Chahar was in the limelight during the last season of the Indian Premier League in 2021 at Dubai Arena when he shocked everyone by proposing to his longtime girlfriend Jaya Bharadwaj in the stands. His move was taken by surprise by everyone as Deepak hasn’t been a flashy cricketer and likes to keep everything simple and quiet.
However, his love for Jaya forced him to go out of the box like he outfoxed batters with his slower balls. Interestingly it was MS Dhoni who advised him to propose after the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore as Deepak wanted to propose after IPL but Dhoni advised him to go for it and not wait for the right time to come.
2. Amanda Jade-Wellington
So far we have told you about instances where cricketers have proposed to their partners but there has been one iconic moment as well where one partner proposed to a cricketer in public.
It happened in 2019 during the Women’s Big Bash League where Adelaide Strikers were battling a game against Melbourne Renegades. Amanda Jade-Wellington who was playing for Strikers was the star of the match with her breathtaking leg spin.
Soon after the conclusion of the match, Amanda was celebrating with her teammates then suddenly her boyfriend Tayler McKechnie appeared and went down on his knees. He proposed Jade-Wellington and in reply, the 22-year-old also confessed her love and said yes.

She has dominated world cricket and has been part of many iconic moments with the Australian team but in 2018, she produced one revolutionary moment which not only showcased her love for her partner but inspired billions of people around the world to follow their hearts.
She proposed to her Lesbian partner Sarah Gooderham who is reportedly a musician and both met during a music class. Her step to propose in public was a revolutionary move as same-sex marriage was not legal in Australia till December 2017. Considering same-sex marriage isn’t legal in most countries, her move to go public was a brave decision and gave a big message to the whole world.
