But in 2014, something terrible happened. Sankalp went to a railway station in Mathura, jumped in front of a train, and died with his wife. He left a 10-page note talking about corruption in the Home Ministry, naming top officials and DIGs.
This broke Santosh’s heart, and he faced a lot of pain after that. By 2021, people had mostly forgotten him, and he became weak and helpless. He had no work left. That year, he went on Indian Idol 2021 and shared his sad story.
Everyone listening, including the judges, cried hearing his troubles. Neha Kakkar felt so bad that she gave him ₹5 lakh to help. Unique and Unknown Interesting Facts About Santosh Anand:
- He Wrote His First Poem on a Train: When Santosh was a young student traveling from Bulandshahr to Aligarh, he got bored on the train. He pulled out a notebook and scribbled a poem about the fields outside—no one knew then that this quiet moment would lead to songs like “Ek Pyar Ka Nagma” years later.
- He Hid His Disability at Work: After losing his leg in an accident, Santosh worked as a librarian in Delhi before Bollywood. He’d limp to his desk but never told his co-workers why—he’d just smile and say he was “slow today.” That toughness stayed with him forever.
- He Fell Asleep During a Song Recording: One time, while working on a song with Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Santosh dozed off in the studio. He’d been up all night writing, and the music was so calm he couldn’t help it. When he woke up, they all laughed, and the song still turned out a hit.
- He Loved Flying Kites as a Kid: Growing up in Sikandrabad, Santosh was crazy about kites. He’d run across rooftops chasing them, even after his leg got hurt. He says those free-flying kites taught him to dream big, like his songs that soared high.
- He Kept a Secret Diary of Poems: Santosh had a little diary where he wrote poems no one saw—not even his family. He carried it everywhere, jotting down ideas. Some of those hidden lines later became parts of big songs like “Main Na Bhoolunga”.
- He Turned Down a Big Singer Once: Early in his career, a famous singer wanted to change Santosh’s words for a song. Santosh said no—he loved his lyrics too much. The song went to someone else and still hit big, proving his gut was right.
- He sang to His Son as a Baby: When Sankalp was born after 10 years of waiting, Santosh would hold him and hum made-up tunes. He’d make silly rhymes to make the baby laugh—those happy days stuck with him, even after the tough times came.
- He Cried Writing a Happy Song: While writing “Tera Saath Hai” for Pyaasa Sawan, Santosh got teary-eyed—not from sadness, but because the love in the words reminded him of his wife, Raj Dulari. He wiped his eyes and kept going—it’s still a sweet song today.
